51 | Core | Bug Report | Medium | xfce4-battery-plugin: No time and no AC working | Closed
Task Description
xfce4-battery-plugin currently displays the % of the battery, but it doesn't show the time (or does it need a while to figure out how much time is left?)
Also, it doesn't realize when AC is connected.
I did do a sudo poweroff when power was below 5%. When it first powered down, I connected the AC and restarted. The plugin immediately powered down again, as it didn't know AC was connected. |

52 | Core | Bug Report | Medium | X11-Touchscreen: Fullscreen-Issue when the mouse cursor ... | Closed
Task Description
There are some issues with the touchscreen using X11 and fullscreen apps which use their own mouse cursor.
The mouse cursor tends to shift around when it comes outside of the normal screen area.
This can be seen with SuperTux: The mouse cursor is a penguin. Move that close to the edge of the screen and it jumps around and then is shifted to the real touchscreen.
Thanks to a bug in SuperTux, this can also be fixed: Go into the Level Editor and go back into the main menu:
On top of the penguin mouse cursor is the normal X mouse cursor, which will not Shift anymore.
Aditionally, I tried the Hatari Menu (running on 640x480) and AlephOne (running on 800x480).
Both use the standard X mouse cursor and both are working fine.
I guess that the mouse cursor gets confused if it has negative values. |

56 | Core | Bug Report | Medium | Movie Playing (Totem, VLC and MPlayer) | Closed
Task Description
Not really a bug report, just an information what issues what player has (tested using image from Feb 22nd).
MPlayer is missing a library in this image:
libxxf86dga1
Installing that one manually does make it work.
* VLC:
Plays things, but switching to fullscreen and back causes VLC to start having issues.
I wouldn't recomment VLC.
* Totem:
Works well (fullspeed video playing) when you disable the sidebar.
With the sidebar enabled, it doesn't play videos in fullscreen.
Menus are behind the video overlay as well as the controls in fullscreen mode (which is a bummer).
Needs about 10% more for the same movie than MPlayer (and therefore, stutters more often when mmcqd eats up CPU power)
* MPlayer:
Works well (fullspeed video playing) when video out is set to XV.
Audio out needs to be set to OSS. If set to Alsa, it segfaults when scrubbing around or doing a fast forward (see segfault below).
Runs very well in fullscreen, including controls on the bottom.
Does have issues displaying videos in windows (usually shows black, unless you resize the window).
Cache should be set to 40000. This will almost remove the stuttering when mmcqd accesses the SD card.
Menu is behind the video stream as well.
Only bad thing about Gnome MPlayer is, that you can't run it in fullscreen automatically when a video is loaded.
So basically, MPlayer is the best we have at the moment.
Fullscreen is really working flawlessly. Maybe we could change Gnome MPlayer to some fullscreen GUI (like the MPlayer for the Wii, etc.).
For a first release, it already works well enough.
Just need to make sure we include default settings as described above (most important: OSS sound!)
In case anyone wants to debug, here is the segfault that happens when using ALSA and fast forwarding:

The following packages can be removed:
embryo
gnome-games
gnome-games-blackjack
gnome-games-gnometris
gnome-games-iagno
gnome-games-gtali
gnome-games-gnobots2
xmms-mad
But we need the following ones:
xmms-plugin-input-mpg123
xmms-plugin-input-mikmod
mikmod
libxxf86dga1
epdfview
gnumeric (if possible, would be nice)
I do wonder though if we should remove all gnome-games (and ScummVM) completely.
Makes more sense if we wrap those games up as PND files.
Same goes for the community wallpapers. Should we include them? Or save that space for other things? |

Task Description
Currently the nubs can be set to three different modes:
mouse, scroll and absolute
Mode 1 (mouse) works fine, but the speed is a bit slow.
Mode 2 (scroll) has inverted scrolling and it would be nice if scrolling speed would change according to how far you move it
Aditionally, I would suggest adding another mode: mbuttons (Mouse buttons).
At the moment, you can use the nubs as mouse but don't have any mouse buttons.
I think it would be very convenient if you could set the nubs as mouse buttons:
Move the nub left for left click, right for right click, up for double click and down for middle click.
That way, each user could use the left nub for mouse and the right nub for mouse buttons or vice versa. |

Task Description
On my Pandora, due to bad internal WiFi, I use an Edimax EW-7811Un USB WiFi adapter, which has a status-LED, flickering according to the network activity.
After disabling USB-host through the settings menu, the WiFi functionality is gone, but the device's LED is still on. So some current must still flow into the USB device.
The LED now has a permanent light, no flickering! This lack of "device intelligence" indicates that the device was indeed turned off, just current flowing directly to the LED circuit unaltered).
I can repeat the aforementioned steps many times, the behavior is the same.
As soon as I then first physically unplug and reinsert the device, the LED remains off eventually.
From then on, every further issuing of "Disable USB-host" through the settings menu turns the device LED completely off.
Smells like a kernel bug to me! As it requires one real un/re-plugging, from then on works ok. |

31 | Core | Bug Report | High | X11 Crashing with omapfb | Closed
Task Description
Cleaned up a bit.
* Mouse is inverted if you run SDL Games from the console.
* Mouse is not properly calibrated when you run SDL Games under X fullscreen. Fixed with notaz patch that also fixes the X11-Crash with omapfb (see below)
Regarding the X11-Crash when using SDL-Fullscreen-Apps together with omapfb:
notaz nailed down the problem: It's actually xf86-input-tslib's fault-
omapfb only acted as catalizator here, causing SDL to use different code path and call different X functions.
His patch also almost increases the touchscreen problem (see above): It runs perfect for games in 800x480.
However, on small issue is left on apps with lower resolution which use their own mouse cursor:
As soon as you move the mouse outside of the game resolution (i.e. SuperTux runs 640x480), the mouse cursor stops at the end of the virtual screen and you have an offset.
This only seems to happen when the game uses it's own mouse cursor. If you go to the level editor of SuperTux and leave, the normal X cursor appears and the problem doesn't occur anymore.
So this is probably something that needs to be fixed in the game, not in the driver.
A compiled version (for testing):
http://notaz.gp2x.de/tmp/tslib_drv.so --- needs to be copied here: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/tslib_drv.so |

There is a fix by notaz:

ALSA crashes pretty often. Not sure, but I think it does this when something is eating up a lot of CPU.
ALSA starts to spit out buffer_underrun errors and occasionally crashes with an input/output error.
Then no sound will come from an SDL app.
You can reinitialize it by playing a song with XMMS. |

76 | Core | Bug Report | High | Wifi connection lost under high CPU load | Closed
Task Description
I noticed that when I tried Quake 3 a while back that I would lose my internet connection. Only the very first time I tried it did it ever find a couple thousand servers and let me join a map. Since then, it always dies and I never see any servers.
I wasn't too concerned yet because maybe it's just Q3 doing something but tonight mplayer was running full screen and then suddenly it started chugging and the network manager popped up that it was trying to connect (spinning logo at the bottom). Since you only get one shot at network manager per boot, it was a lost cause.
The correlation I make here was that I'm sure the CPU was under heavy load for both cases but I haven't tried other programs to see what happens. I didn't have any games on this card tonight. Can anyone repeat this problem or is it a known issue? |

Task Description
It could be nice, if some very small development frameworks were included in the OS since the Pandora should make it as easy as possible for beginners to start programming.
That means: A "Start coding now"-wizard/script can be run from the desktop from which you select the type of project (c++, python, SDL...) you want to do. It copies the framework to SD-Card, opens it in an editor/IDE to see the sourcecode and leads you to the first compile and run. Can be combined with a PND-Packer-script.
Ideas for frameworks:
- a small python template (pygame?)
- a template project for an SDL-project (red square in fullscreen)
- a template project for OpenGL ES (a simple colored triangle)
- a template project for using NEON or DSP
- something with a GUI (QT?)
- general HelloWorlds
- all as simple as possible!
I know that this could help many beginners to actually start programming because the first compile is often hardest step (setting up toolchain, hassle with libs, includes, dependencies, compiler options, choice of editor, makefiles, all that stuff).
Feel free to delete this feature request if it doesn't fit into the bugtracker. |

The system starts at /media/mmcblk0 (with p1 ec being the partition number); if you eject the SD, then stick it back in, it will try to go to the earlier number again, but if some process was watching that SD when you ejected it, the system will nto be able to recycle that number, so you get the next blk number. So if you end up with /media/mmcblk5p1 (say), then it means you've been eject/inserting, and some program or another has been watching the SD instead of letting it go.
Isn't it nicer to cleanup the ones above 1 (so 0 and 1 are there) at startup to avoid confusion? |

Task Description
I love to use the pandora for some on-the-go python development, and I think I'm not the only one, but unfortunately the module pydoc is missing, which is needed for doing help(sys) on the interactive prompt. Could you please include that in the next firmware revision? Thanks! |

Task Description
How to reproduce:
First boot, Pandora's Box has been opened. Prompt for Full name, username, and password.
Then, simply press OK without selecting whether minimenu or xfce. None selected. Then you can't do any more. Wizard closes and you don't need any more options.
After manual reboot, the wizard starts again and asks for name again. But the username already exists. |

Right now writes are really slow because they write synchronously: there should be an option to change this so that the user is first taught how to unmount an sd card then remove it... |

Missing kernel-module-snd-usb-audio would be nice to hook the pandora up to my logitec speakers and have audio out and a hub for hooking up other devices at the same time... |

Task Description
/usr/bin/qt4/demos is 9Mb in size and /usr/bin/qt4/examples is 11Mb.
I'm guessing these are only useful for developers. Can they safely be removed?
edit: additionally, /usr/share/vim is 12M. Can those of us who are never going to use VIM remove it? |

Is there any chance we can have OpenAL installed as a default library? I'm considering porting some software that requires it (and truth be told I manually compiled and installed it for my own use atm...) |

Task Description
My Pandora is set to load MiniMenu on boot. I can't use any networked apps because wifi will not automatically connect on boot. XFCE needs to be loaded at least once so that i can enter my keychain password. Once i've entered my password Wifi connects and i can return to MiniMenu. |

Task Description
Aliases like ll for "ls -l" are common. They are super useful on the Pandora (less to type, no Fn key needed).
The .bashrc already includes them but they are commented. Please enabled the ls aliases and colored output. I do not think enabling the "-i" aliases too would be a good idea. |

I see:
555 ret = gpio_request(PANDORA_WIFI_IRQ_GPIO, "wl1251 irq");
556 if (ret < 0)
557 goto fail_nreset;
the goto should go to: fail_irq instead of fail_nreset

Task Description
Hey, was just wondering if it would be possible to have TiMidity++ (http://timidity.sourceforge.net/) added with a hotfix, would allow games/ports that use it (the Zelda ports here: http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php?/topic/54633-zelda-kind-of), zdoom and heretic (I think unless pickles has changed them) and other stuff that uses it to not have to include it in the .pnd and saving SD space... just an idea... |

137 | Base OS | Feature Request | Low | Default vim config | Closed
Task Description
The current vim install does come without any config file. By default this means vim does work in "vi compatible mode" which makes it hardly usable. The attached config file is meant to be used as ~/.vimrc, so it should be added to "/etc/skel/.vimrc". The file is partly based on the default config used by gentoo.
Things this config file sets:
* Start in "vim mode" by default
* activate ruler
* set width of linenumber in ruler
* assume that the terminal uses a dark background
* configure what hitting backspace removed (newlines, ...)
* some magic to have different encoding formats working in a more sane way |
