Task Description
Aliases like ll for "ls -l" are common. They are super useful on the Pandora (less to type, no Fn key needed).
The .bashrc already includes them but they are commented. Please enabled the ls aliases and colored output. I do not think enabling the "-i" aliases too would be a good idea. |

123 | Base OS | Feature Request | Low | Suggestions for the Pandora-Button | New
Task Description
My suggestion instead of a full menu, would be to have a tiny overlay over the current running application which allows you to:
- relogin (to close all running applications)
- quit (stop the active application)
- shows the last notifications / toaster messages which you missed while being in a fullscreen app.
- possibly even something like plugin support or icons to check out the wifi-strength etc. from fullscreen apps.
Implementation wise this could possibly be done using
- a topmost window and the same content rendered in screenspace in a GLES hook (which should draw over most applications)
or
- one of the DSS2 overlays maybe
It's definitely something to consider as it was requested on the forums a few times (~"xbox like menu in games"). |

133 | Base OS | Feature Request | Low | Add TiMidity++ to OS? | Closed
Task Description
Hey, was just wondering if it would be possible to have TiMidity++ (http://timidity.sourceforge.net/) added with a hotfix, would allow games/ports that use it (the Zelda ports here: http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php?/topic/54633-zelda-kind-of), zdoom and heretic (I think unless pickles has changed them) and other stuff that uses it to not have to include it in the .pnd and saving SD space... just an idea... |

137 | Base OS | Feature Request | Low | Default vim config | Closed
Task Description
The current vim install does come without any config file. By default this means vim does work in "vi compatible mode" which makes it hardly usable. The attached config file is meant to be used as ~/.vimrc, so it should be added to "/etc/skel/.vimrc". The file is partly based on the default config used by gentoo.
Things this config file sets:
* Start in "vim mode" by default
* activate ruler
* set width of linenumber in ruler
* assume that the terminal uses a dark background
* configure what hitting backspace removed (newlines, ...)
* some magic to have different encoding formats working in a more sane way |

212 | Core | Feature Request | Low | Add curl to core installed programs | Closed
Task Description
I wish for curl to be installed by default on the upcoming pandora FWs,
As reported by the angstrom repo, where I install using the command:
$sudo su
...
#opkg update
#opkg install curl
curl 7.21.2-r4.0.9 is 78.57 Kilobytes with the dependencies
Depends:libcurl4, libgnutls26, libgcrypt11, libgpg-error0, libc6, libz1
I do not know which is installed by default, but I'm sure libc6 is, so I'm going to state the info on the rest of the packages for its memory space usage on the NAND
libcurl4(142.99 Kilobytes):
Command line tool and library for client-side URL transfers.
Depends:libc6, libgnutls26, libz1, libgcrypt11, libgpg-error0, as you can see, it has the same dependencies as above, so it seems both curl and libcurl are probably exclusive from the others, but I will go forward and state the rest of the dependencies
libgnutls26 2.8.6-r10.0.5 (291.44 Kilobytes)
Depends:libz1, libgcrypt11, libgpg-error0, libc6, (again, it looks like the above depends on this)
libgcrypt11 1.4.1-r0.9 (220.35 Kilobytes)
Depends: libgpg-error0, libc6, (Oh look, we're not looking at libz1 anymore)
libgpg-error0 1.4-r7.1.9 (5.78 Kilobytes)
Depends:libc6
now to the lone libz1
libz1 1.2.3-r7.0.9 (41.95 Kilobytes)
Depends:libc6
So, in the case we already have the gpg stuff, then the installation is only 221.56KB, however, with the zlib and the gpg included, the total comes to 781.08KB
So, now that the cost is out of the way, What are the goods and bads?
Good:
Its a very versatile CLI program to get and send information over http through the network, and is tolerant of network issues
It doesn't take too much space relative to things that have been pulled out, like abiword.
The libcurl is a very good library, and could be of great benefit to some future projects.
Bad:
Well, we already have wget, which is not as configurable, and wget hates Craig's appstore
Here's the link to curl on the repo
http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/repo/?pkgname=curl |

220 | Core | Feature Request | Low | Please include /usr/bin/xkbset | Closed
Task Description
One of the first things after installing HF5 was downloading xkbset, because it is necessary for proper L-R buttons mapping as mouse buttons. Could you please include that in the system?
I am using urjaman's executable from here:
http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php?/topic/55124-remapping-the-mouse-buttons-etc/page__st__15__p__896576entry896576
Even better would be a GUI that allows mapping of L-R buttons for mouse, just like GUI for nubs :) But including xkbset will be already good. |
|
238 | Application | Feature Request | Low | Quick key access to OK in dialogues | Unconfirmed
Task Description
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: In many GUI dialogues the default action button (OK, ACCEPT, YES, …) cannot be triggered with a simple key press. Pressing ENTER triggers the element which has focus (usually the first dialogue element), but not the default action, as most computer users would expect!
MY WORKAROUND MEANWHILE: Press ALT plus the underlined letter of your desired action. But that's not very convenient as the underlined letter needs to be looked upon first, as the button label can differ from situation to situation (ACCEPT, OK, YES, …) and then 2 keys need to be pressed.
SUGGESTED SOLUTION: The custom of many operating systems should be adapted on the OpenPandora as well. SPACE triggers the currently focused element (whatever that may be: list item, radio button, checkbox, etc), and ENTER triggers the default action of that dialogue.
Or even better use the Pandora specific A/B/Y/X keys cleverly in those dialogues/selections. I don't know whether there is a standard functionality assignment within this key-group, in MiniMenu "B" is start/confirm, I do not know of any other standard assignments yet. |

Task Description
If you set MiniMenu's option "Live (not exit) on app run?" to YES, and you quit an application and return to the still running MiniMenu, it runs in windowed mode, and takes about 2 seconds until it goes into full screen mode again.
This delay should at best be not noticeable at all, at most 0-1 seconds. |

|
244 | Application | Feature Request | Low | Include man and the manpages | Unconfirmed
Task Description
The command line environment of the default OS does not include the command "man" and the respective manpages of the installed programs.
I personally often use manpages, as I hardly remember the syntax/arguments of all programs I use.
Having them would be very convenient!
EVALUATING NEEDED STORAGE AMOUNT
Some may argue that storage space is quite limited on the NAND.
Yes I agree. Hence the number of included programs is limited too. Hence it would not be all too many manpages.
When I press TAB into an empty Terminal prompt, I get 1406 possibilities, which is about the amount of available commands/programs if we ignore aliases, etc.
Multiply that with an average of 20 kb per manpage, and you get about 30 MB in total. With compression this could possibly be brought down to 15-20 MB.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
A) Store into the NAND the manpages of core OS CLI programs only, and not all the library/system/etc documentation.
B) Include only the man command into the core OS, and compile/configure it in such a fashion, that it finds the manpages within non-NAND media (SD card, USB volume, etc).
b1) Specify that it simply looks into a certain path within the /media/*/pandora/ structure.
b2) Or offer PND packages like man-core.pnd, man-extended.pnd,... you get the idea or even man-custom.pnd (which would look into its appdata or a certain path for custom added manpages, to somehow get the b1 approach within the PND approach). |

I merely wanted to suggest a feature but not take development responsibility (yet).

276 | Core | Feature Request | Low | Kernel 3.2.x: add script to activate zram | Closed
Task Description
Please add a script to activate zram (RAM compression) when using the new kernel. More info about how to do this is available in this post:
http://boards.openpandora.org/index.php?/topic/7844-superzaxxon-beta-3-released/#entry138834
http://boards.openpandora.org/index.php?/topic/7226-superzaxxon-beta-11-released/page__st__20#entry128665
Please be aware though that Linux-SWAT had to explicitly set a value in "/sys/block/zram0/disksize" to get it work with Slackware. Over here the following is automatically set:
pandora:~$ cat /sys/block/zram0/disksize
61648896
Sadly I can *not* change this value, even using sudo:
pandora:~$ ls -l /sys/block/zram0/disksize
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4096 Apr 9 12:51 /sys/block/zram0/disksize
pandora:~$ cat /sys/block/zram0/disksize
61648896
pandora:~$ sudo echo 61648888 > /sys/block/zram0/disksize
-bash: /sys/block/zram0/disksize: Permission denied
Basically the following commands are required in a startup script to automatically create the "compressed swap inside RAM" aka zram (possibly a check if the modprobe was successful makes sense as well as checking for the size of the created ramdisk):
modprobe zram
mkswap /dev/zram0
swapon -p 5 /dev/zram0 |

288 | Core | Feature Request | Low | add functionality to inputrc | Unconfirmed
Task Description
Since the default inputrc doesn't contain any functionality (simple cli movements like ctrl-left or crtrl-right to skip words don't work) this diff may be useful to add to the cli-experience. I've also been trying to get the delete-key to work, but this is apparently already a known issue (see FS#227). I can remove this from the diff if you want. 321 | Core | Feature Request | Low | Support overriding all category fields with .ovr | Closed
Task Description
Currently only the main category and the first sub category of the main category can be overridden using a .ovr file while libpnd uses additional PXML supplied category date to construct the desktop file. This makes it difficult to work with PNDs that supply unwanted data in these additional fields. |

|
86 | Base OS | Feature Request | Very Low | Including small development frameworks/projects in the ... | Closed
Task Description
It could be nice, if some very small development frameworks were included in the OS since the Pandora should make it as easy as possible for beginners to start programming.
That means: A "Start coding now"-wizard/script can be run from the desktop from which you select the type of project (c++, python, SDL...) you want to do. It copies the framework to SD-Card, opens it in an editor/IDE to see the sourcecode and leads you to the first compile and run. Can be combined with a PND-Packer-script.
Ideas for frameworks:
- a small python template (pygame?)
- a template project for an SDL-project (red square in fullscreen)
- a template project for OpenGL ES (a simple colored triangle)
- a template project for using NEON or DSP
- something with a GUI (QT?)
- general HelloWorlds
- all as simple as possible!
I know that this could help many beginners to actually start programming because the first compile is often hardest step (setting up toolchain, hassle with libs, includes, dependencies, compiler options, choice of editor, makefiles, all that stuff).
Feel free to delete this feature request if it doesn't fit into the bugtracker. |

105 | Application | Feature Request | Very Low | Nubs feature request | New
Task Description
The 'Nubs' application needs a setting for deadzone. Using the nubs in First person shooters the nubs trigger in directions when not even touched. An adjustment for deadzone would eliminate accidental movement caused by vibration.
Also, application profiles for the nubs would be very useful. Different apps use the nubs in different ways and it would be great to not have to go and change settings before launching each application. |

106 | Application | Feature Request | Very Low | AppData corruption | Unconfirmed
Task Description
The appdata folder was corrupted on my SD card from an unclean eject this made the folder read only until i ran a repaired it. MiniMenu still displayed all my PND files.
When clicking to launch the app would try to load crash and then return to MiniMenu without any visible error. This was pretty confusing and i thought it might be a good fix for a troubleshooting guide. |

237 | Core | Bug Report | Critical | /dev/mmcblkN - N sometimes points to left, sometimes to ... | Closed
Task Description
SPECIFICATION:
According to http://pandorawiki.org/SD_compatibility_list
/dev/mmcblk0 is the left SD card slot (the one being closer to the headphone check)
/dev/mmcblk1 is the right SD card slot
I trusted that device path specification.
And it was correct MOST of the time.
But sadly only most of the time, NOT ALWAYS!!!
This bug is severely dangerous, as a (possibly critical) command could unexpectedly affect a device other than the one you intended it for!
BUG INCIDENT:
Sadly, I realized this bug at the worst possible moment!
I issued the command: shred -fvz /dev/mmcblk0
but it erased the card in the RIGHT slot.
I realized that because the card inserted on the left has 16GB, and the one on the right 128MB.
I checked both the card positions and my entered command, to exclude my own mistake. Sadly it was not a clumsy mistake: This severe bug really exists!
BUG REPRODUCIBILITY:
I already slightly witnessed this bug during the last days, but thought it was just a coincidence.
I.e. in GParted the larger card showed up at the wrong device path.
I did a refresh and/or ejected/re-inserted the card, and the expected device path was back again, and I did not think further about this incident.
Only today with this fatal shred incident, I eventually realized this behavior is a bug.
Luckily I had my data backed up. |

263 | Application | Bug Report | Critical | MiniMenu with "Auto discover pnd apps?" set to NO hangs ... | Closed
Task Description
BUG DESCRIPTION:
On my SD card with Pandora OS 1.6.4 I changed MiniMenu's setting "Auto discover pnd apps?" to NO, and then the program remained in an endless loop showing "Setting up menu...", crashing, "Setting up menu...", crashing, and so on.
BUG REPRODUCTION:
The variable filesystem.do_pnd_disco set to the value 0 definetely causes the crash, but maybe only in conjunction with some of my other settings?!
Therefore see my attached config file mmpref.conf.
Maybe related to FS#79 , hard to tell, as this is a very minimal report.
Definitely not related to my previously reported MiniMenu bug FS#262
WORKAROUND:
1) If your default GUI is:
a) MiniMenu: Then after rebooting, MiniMenu will still be caught in an endless loop! Therefore boot up from an auxilary/temporary volume rather than your volume with the damaged MiniMenu! If your ruined system is on the NAND boot from an SD card, if the ruined system is on SD card, boot from NAND or another SD card. In doubt read: http://pandorawiki.org/Running_Linux_from_an_SD_card
b) Other than MiniMenu such as XFCE: Then you are lucky. Simply start into XFCE, and continue with the next step.
2) Open ~/.mmpref.conf with a text editor and set the variable filesystem.do_pnd_disco to the value 1.
3) Reboot into your healed volume. |

notaz nailed down the problem: It's actually xf86-input-tslib's fault-
omapfb only acted as catalizator here, causing SDL to use different code path and call different X functions.
His patch also almost increases the touchscreen problem (see above): It runs perfect for games in 800x480.
However, on small issue is left on apps with lower resolution which use their own mouse cursor:
As soon as you move the mouse outside of the game resolution (i.e. SuperTux runs 640x480), the mouse cursor stops at the end of the virtual screen and you have an offset.
This only seems to happen when the game uses it's own mouse cursor. If you go to the level editor of SuperTux and leave, the normal X cursor appears and the problem doesn't occur anymore.
So this is probably something that needs to be fixed in the game, not in the driver.
A compiled version (for testing):
http://notaz.gp2x.de/tmp/tslib_drv.so --- needs to be copied here: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/tslib_drv.so |

Task Description
EDIT: Doesn't seem to be crashing. Looks like the amp hasn't been setup properly.
There is a fix by notaz:
http://notaz.gp2x.de/tmp/uImage
Use that with the latest image (Feb 13th) to test it out.
ALSA crashes pretty often. Not sure, but I think it does this when something is eating up a lot of CPU.
ALSA starts to spit out buffer_underrun errors and occasionally crashes with an input/output error.
Then no sound will come from an SDL app.
You can reinitialize it by playing a song with XMMS. |

Task Description
It seems there's a bug in the latest package "file 5.04-r0.5" of the Angström repository:
It's missing the magic files and therefore doesn't work.
Unfortunately, pnd_run.sh depends on it and therefore it breaks the PND-system.
Installing an older stable version (http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/feeds/2008/ipk/glibc/armv7a/base/file_4.21-r0.1_armv7a.ipk) does make it work again.
First appeared on image from Feb 13th, not fixed in image from Feb 22nd yet. |

New GLES driver doesn't seem to load correctly right now.
Therefore, pmenu is also not working in this image. |
