54 | Core | Feature Request | High | Make it possible to enable / disable keyboard mappings ... | Closed
Task Description
Some stuff (UAE4ALL, SuperTux, etc.) is having problems because ABXY and DPAD are mapped to keyboard buttons.
I guess this will lead to more problems in the near future with SDL apps, so it should be configurable to enable / disable the keyboard -> DPAD / ABXY mappings.
Maybe this could be included into libpnd? |

56 | Core | Bug Report | Medium | Movie Playing (Totem, VLC and MPlayer) | Closed
Task Description
Not really a bug report, just an information what issues what player has (tested using image from Feb 22nd).
MPlayer is missing a library in this image:
libxxf86dga1
Installing that one manually does make it work.
* VLC:
Plays things, but switching to fullscreen and back causes VLC to start having issues.
I wouldn't recomment VLC.
* Totem:
Works well (fullspeed video playing) when you disable the sidebar.
With the sidebar enabled, it doesn't play videos in fullscreen.
Menus are behind the video overlay as well as the controls in fullscreen mode (which is a bummer).
Needs about 10% more for the same movie than MPlayer (and therefore, stutters more often when mmcqd eats up CPU power)
* MPlayer:
Works well (fullspeed video playing) when video out is set to XV.
Audio out needs to be set to OSS. If set to Alsa, it segfaults when scrubbing around or doing a fast forward (see segfault below).
Runs very well in fullscreen, including controls on the bottom.
Does have issues displaying videos in windows (usually shows black, unless you resize the window).
Cache should be set to 40000. This will almost remove the stuttering when mmcqd accesses the SD card.
Menu is behind the video stream as well.
Only bad thing about Gnome MPlayer is, that you can't run it in fullscreen automatically when a video is loaded.
So basically, MPlayer is the best we have at the moment.
Fullscreen is really working flawlessly. Maybe we could change Gnome MPlayer to some fullscreen GUI (like the MPlayer for the Wii, etc.).
For a first release, it already works well enough.
Just need to make sure we include default settings as described above (most important: OSS sound!)
In case anyone wants to debug, here is the segfault that happens when using ALSA and fast forwarding:

Task Description
The next kernel offers switching between a joystick / keyboard mode.
In joystick mode, the DPAD and ABXYRL Buttons behave like a joystick buttons and have no keyboard mappings.
In keyboard mode, the DPAD and ABXYRL Buttons have keyboard mappings and are NOT registered as joystick.
The normal keyboard keys are not affected by this.
PXML needs to have a switch added for that and pnd_run should change the mode according to that switch.
When the PND app has quit, it should always go back to keyboard mode.
The commands are the following:
echo 1 > /proc/pandora/game_button_mode # keyboard mode
echo 2 > /proc/pandora/game_button_mode # gamepad mode |

I do wonder though if we should remove all gnome-games (and ScummVM) completely.
Makes more sense if we wrap those games up as PND files.
Same goes for the community wallpapers. Should we include them? Or save that space for other things? |

Task Description
At the moment, /usr/pandora/scripts/op_switchgui,sh ,/usr/pandora/scripts/op_defaultgui.sh and /usr/pandora/scripts/first-run-wizard.sh are hardcoded with the GUIs we have.
I'd like to have that configurable for the future.
My current plan is having a config file with all the GUIs in (e.g. /etc/pandora/gui.conf)
In there, there should be ALL GUIs:
"XFCE4";"startxfce4";"xfce4-session-logout --logout"
"Netbook Launcher";"startnetbooklauncher";"killall netbook-launcher-efl"
"PMenu";"pmenu";""
So with an info:
a) What's the name of the GUI
b) How to start it
c) How to stop it (if it doesn't do that itself)
Therefore, various GUIs could be implemented and switched with the Switch GUI script by simply adding it to the config file.
Ideally, all GUIs should either have a shutdown script (so I don't have to kill it to quit it) or react properly on a simple terminate
command :)
Or they could do it themselves, read out the config file, show up the different GUIs we have, change the /tmp/gui.load file and quit.
Any more ideas?
Any help? Coding that script shouldn't be too hard, the only thing I don't know at the moment is how to parse various config lines (as above) into a shell script :)
vimacs, any idea there? |

Task Description
I noticed that when I tried Quake 3 a while back that I would lose my internet connection. Only the very first time I tried it did it ever find a couple thousand servers and let me join a map. Since then, it always dies and I never see any servers.
I wasn't too concerned yet because maybe it's just Q3 doing something but tonight mplayer was running full screen and then suddenly it started chugging and the network manager popped up that it was trying to connect (spinning logo at the bottom). Since you only get one shot at network manager per boot, it was a lost cause.
The correlation I make here was that I'm sure the CPU was under heavy load for both cases but I haven't tried other programs to see what happens. I didn't have any games on this card tonight. Can anyone repeat this problem or is it a known issue? |

81 | Core | Bug Report | High | pandora seems to hang during boot, turns out it didn't | Closed
Task Description
it seemed just now thay my pandora didnt complete its bootsequence. During booting, the screen turned black. I thought it had crashed, but I still saw lights flashing when I inserted an SDcard.
I then assumed that it WAS booting normally, but that the screen was turned down. So I pushed enter to confirm my username, as I suspected that I was at that prompt. Next I inputted my pwd, pushed enter, waited a bit, and then ised Fn+I to increase the brightness. It worked!
I think that during the bootprocess the screen should at most be set to the darkest setting, but never to off.
I think I know what happened. I told my pandora to shutdown and closed the lit before it was done. I guess that that swiittched off the screen, a setting which was then saved by the shutdown process, and restored during the bootsequence.
I would suggest fixing this in the startup process, rather than the shutdown process, because that way, no matter what ends up in the settings, a sensible valsue is set at startup. I'll see if I can reproduce this. |

An interesting point -- opening the lid turning the screen on, but you're still in lower power mode. The question then becomes --
Since you enabled low power mode (using the power switch), thats the logical way to un-low power mode.
Two outcomes come to mind ..
When opening the lid, one of:
i) wake up from low power mode, or
ii) Don't turn the screen on when in low power mode
(or a variation of (ii) -- flash a warning "hey, I'm in lower power, bugger off, and hit the power switch")
I can code something in; probably occured due to in my prototype, I broke the power switch, so I didn't use low power mode near the end ;) |

Could you share your rationale for that comment in drivers/bluetooth/hci_h4p/core.c? (Oh and there's a typo, too :P )
EDIT: Asking this because commenting that block out changed status of bluetooth (for me) from unusable (can receive ~20-500kB of data before ppp connection halting) to fully working - used to have big problems playing 32kbps AAC stream (max 2 min), now already 4 mins of 96kbps, but i still think we need some receive timeout mechanism, but this one (as it currently stands) doesnt work.
Notaz's reply:
I don't really remember, it was more than 1.5 years ago. That driver is a hack, will need to review it, does it work stable with that code removed?
My reply:
For the non-IRC people:

(22:47:45) urjaman: notaz: about stability: i'm on irc atm with that driver, its been playing internet radio for a few hours without problems now, but i don know for sure.
(22:48:00) urjaman: *dont know
(22:50:11) urjaman: my logic: if the serial port _never_ misses a byte it should be ok - IMO scary without some receive timeout, but works for me |

136 | Core | Bug Report | High | rather high battery discharge while Pandora is powered ... | Closed
Task Description
The Pandora does seem to use too much energy while it is turned off. A testcase: The pandora was turned off over night (about 8 hours) and battery state dropped from 98% to 96%. When removing the battery from the pandora for the same amount of time, the state is not changed at all.
This is based on the zaxxon firmware release with hotfix3, beta2.
Problem: if you don't use the pandora for a while and forget to remove the battery you can cause a deep discharge which might damage the battery. This is also a problem if the Pandora does eg shutdown itself since power is out and you can't directly attach it to a charger.
Possible causes:
* Design fault in the board.
* Too much powered on while the device *should* be completely powered off. The only things that should get power are the clock and the power button. This should basically not drain much.
Regarding the clock: The PalmPre is based on the OMAP3, too. There you basically have no discharge when it is powered off, so it is unlikely that the fault is in the OMAP3 itself. |

NOTE: power and charger leds are driven by PWM (just so you all know what I'm talking about).

Task Description
Wifi LED does not always get re-activated after enabling wifi.
It seems that the led trigger which ought to be set to [phy0dadio] no longer exists and the phy# seems to increment (up to at least 11 I have observed)
If I set the trigger to phy##radio then the notification works again, but I'm not sure of the best way to fix this. I suppose a quick hack to the wl1251-init script is the place to start. |

But this time no translation is involved (masked in my script until this is fixed).
And making the file smaller (by removing apps :( ) managed to let it alive, so it seam to be file size related. |

164 | Core | Bug Report | Low | Display brightness not restored at booting, HF4beta3 | Closed
Task Description
The update from Hotfix3 to Hotfix4 beta3 broke restoring of display brightness at boot time. Restoring of brightness after "powersave mode" (aka flipping the power switch for a short time) does work nicely. This might be related to bug #163 ( http://bugs.openpandora.org/index.php?do=details&task_id=163 ) where shutting the display down via DPMS does result in the brightness being lost when getting the display on again.
This is related to the desktop mode (XFCE). Don't know if it does happen for minimenu, too, not tested yet. |
