FS#82 - Network Manager - Wifi Can't Reconnect

When wifi drops out, or you have disconnected from it and wish to reconnect, you cant reconnect using network-manager. The connecting icon spins for a while, then it pops up the 'Password' Dialog. If you enter your password, the cycle begins again.

If this really is similar to the behaviour NM exhibits even on desktop. I've found the way to get around it is to (I don't know if you can do this on the Pandora) right-click the nm-applet icon in the taskbar and disable networking by unchecking the checkbox. Wait a few seconds and then re-enable it, by checking the checkbox. It usually detects your saved network and reconnects immediately.

Just tried that and it worked! Is there any way we can automate this? I assume the enable / disable networking thing is published via dbus?

Wahey, glad I could help. Yes the state is surely published via dbus. How to activate it I do not know. I'll try looking around on the mailing list / wiki later. Edit: Try making a script with the following command: /etc/dbus-1/event.d/25NetworkManager start With either start or stop as the parameter for the state. ^^ Not as simple as the above. I'm sure the answer is on the mailing list somewhere, I'll look later and post back if I find it.

It happens when wireless becomes inactive, then can't reonnect, including networks without password. dmesg shows some interesting info about this bug.

> dmesg shows some interesting info about this bug. It would help if you posted that, thanks.

My Pandora only drops wifi (like described in the bugreport) when my desktop computer is connected to my router. When the desktop is off, then wifi works great with my pandora and it also reconnects successfully everytime. I noticed that my router wants to give both (computer and pandora) the same ip-adress per dhcp. Manually entering an explicit ip in pandoras network manager did not help - no connection possible while my desktop uses wifi. Hope that helps to find a solution for the wifi-problem. Maybe pandora is great at confusing cheap routers.
